"When we look at individual behavior in organizations, we are actually seeing two entities: the individual as himself and the individual as representative of his collectivity....Thus, the individual not only acts on behalf of the organization in the usual agency sense, but he also acts, more subtly, 'as the organization' when he embodies the values, beliefs, and goals of the collectivity. As a result, individual behavior is more 'macro' than we usually recognize."
