Reference paper:
Detert, J. R., & Burris, E. R. (2007). Leadership behavior and employee voice: is the door really open? The Academy of Management Journal ARCHIVE, 50(4), 869–884.

Conclusion:
(A 50-word quick summary from my understanding)
Voice is positively associated with leader's change-oriented behaviors. While both perceived openness and transformational leadership positively influenced voice, former has a stronger influencer on voice. Psychological safety plays a mediating role in leader behavior-voice relationship. Also the influence of leadership behavior on voice is more pronounced for high performing subordinates.

Quick Notes/queries:

  • What could stimulate prosocial voice from poor performers?
  • What if poor performance rating of a subordinate is attributable to prior level of his/her voice?
